Movie Review

“Equalizer 2”

Warning: May contain some spoilers.

I finally got the chance to watch “Equalizer 2” on Vudu. I must say I wasn’t that impressed with this one. I had to watch it twice. I thought at first I was just expecting what I saw in the first one. I had to clear my thoughts of the first one, minus the important details that carried over. And watching it a second time, I didn’t change my stance on how I felt about the movie.

The movie started very slow. I understand it had to have some back information, however, it was very slow starting, too much talking for almost the entire first hour. I found some parts of that hour entertaining. You do see the McCall charm as he deals with various people in his everyday life. I do like how they play through his emotions from the time he finds out about his friend until the end.

There wasn’t much action in this one. It seems as if all the action scenes were what we saw in the trailers for the movie. I’d say the climax of the movie hit in the second half.

There wasn’t clarity in the locations. One second you’re in the city. Next someone is asking for the airport, but they don’t show up in Brussels until a few scenes later, after they did something in the city.

I believe they could have made the movie a bit better than they did as far as consistency. The acting itself was good all the around. The story line was decent.

Business Review (Beyond Spa)

BEYOND SPA

LAYTON, UT

I finally did it! Got my first ever professional massage!!!!

This spa was everything and then some!!! We, my best friend and I, for the BFF special.

From the time we walked in the door we received exceptional service until we left. Even when I couldn’t get out of the extra comfortable chairs (due to a recent knee surgery).

Most businesses in general have you fill out paperwork in the lobby. Not there. After pulling up our appointments, she got our paperwork together, placed hot neck pads on us and walked us to this calm quiet dim waiting area. The waiting area had cucumber water, pretzels and apples. We received nice hot foot soaks while waiting. I would have been just fine sitting there. LOL

Our therapists was great. My friend received a deep tissue massage, I just got a relaxing one. Once the massage was complete we were taken to another calming waiting area before our pedicures. This was the first time I’ve ever had frozen grapes. Delicious I tell you!!

The service was wonderful. The snacks were good. Kept sliding in my flip flops, but it was totally worth it. Will I go again when I visit Utah again, most definitely!

Book Review “Gravity”

“Gravity” by Shani Greene-Dowdell

I enjoyed this short read. Out pulled on my heart strings. Because it was a short read it moved fast. Which is okay for my limited time.

I would love to read this storyline as a full novel or series. The questions I have!!! LOL Overall, good job!

Business Review (Red Roof Inn)

Red Roof Inn

Mt. Pleasant, SC

Last weekend, (Nov. 3rd) we got to our hotel in Mt. Pleasant, SC. This is right outside of Charleston. For this hotel to be this close (10 miles) from the cruise port and other tourism activities, I was surprised at how awful the room was. I have NEVER been in a hotel this bad. I’m wondering what the reviewers where looking at when they rated this hotel.

We got our room, the room was FILTHY. Urine on the bathroom floor, food in the microwave, dirty table and the list goes on. Yes, the night manager moved us. He upgraded us to what was supposed to be a premium room. When we walked in we inspected the room first. Much better, but not all that great, but survivable for ONE night. It’s very obvious they did some spot cleaning. Dirty lamp like someone touched it while eating. Thick dust on the lights over the beds, hair in the towels. Then you look around and wonder “This is a premium room?” The only difference in the room was we had 1 extra pillow on each bed and supposed to have had some snacks and things that we didn’t even have.

Yes, a full refund was issued the following morning, but it shouldn’t have came to that. I’m sure we are not the only ones that arrive late in the evening/night. Who wants to go through all of that after you’ve been on the road?

While the customer service was decent, the cleaniness of the hotel overshadowed everything else. One room, okay, you missed the room. Two rooms, we have a problem. A HUGE problem.

Red Lobster (Business Review)

Red Lobster (13th St, Columbus, GA)

I normally go here to this location. Almost always have good service. So when others recently complained, I brushed it off to the waiter/waitress having a bad day.

My mom and I went Sunday for the All you can eat shrimp. Or rather I did. It was not even that crowded when we got there so I didn’t see the problem. Let mere start of saying the food itself was delicious.

First it took forever just to get the drink order. When we did order our food, my mom asked for extra peppers. They only bought out four biscuits, which was okay because we don’t want them cold. Needless to say when my mom got got her food without the extra peppers, the waitress says that is extra. Boo, we know normal from extra. Five peppers on that order is below normal. Still we never got the peppers.

The biscuits were gone. We asked for more, which i NEVER had to do. Her reply? “They’re cooking.” 30 minutes later still no biscuits. Oh they’re still cooking.

Now, this isn’t my first time doing the All you can eat shrimp. So I know how this goes. Never have I had took WAIT to order my next one. As soon as the plate is bought out, the next one put in. She acted like that was such a problem. By then I was just ready to go. Was going to even order dessert, but didn’t feel the urge to waste my time.

My mom being the nice one still left her a tip. Me, my tip would be show better customer service. I was wanting the waitress the served the table behind us because she was engaging at all her tables. Yes I pay attention. The most interaction, other than ordering our food, was when I mentioned all the color pens she had. How sad. How disappointing.

Poetry & Life

Those that know me know I love poetry. Yes, I write it, but I also love reading and hearing other poets spit. Me, I’m a newbie with in the spoken word arena. I’m still learning my flow. But that’s neither here nor there.

Since I’ve been back in Georgia, I’ve heard and met some amazing poets that come from all over the country. I’ve met some of the best. Some that make their living off their spoken word. To see that growth and that amazing talent is just awe inspiring. I’ve been going through my CDs from the poets, listening, learning, enjoying their pieces. To hear such great talent and not take away something from them would be pure sin. Or just laziness. Neither I am known for. Tonight I want to talk about one specific poet from South Carolina name Ray Manley.

His CD deals with mostly relationships. He has an erotic flare that will make a novice blush. He will bring out the inner freak in you too. Don’t sleep on him. I know the erotic pieces is what most of the people will take away from the CD, but it goes much deeper than that. Let’s talk about that, shall we.

Yes, I’m currently single. No, I don’t really sweat it, don’t too much worry about it. Every now and then I’ll have a moment where I wish I wasn’t. Those are few and far in between. When I listened to Ray’s CD the second go round, I realized why I really loved his CD. Why I loved ALL his pieces. Yes, all. How often does that happen? I know you want to know what was on the CD, what his poems are about. I’m getting there.

So, I’ve always said I had some old fashion ways about myself. My standards are my standards and I won’t lower them to meet someone else’s because they feel intimidated. Yes, I’ve been told I should. True enough, I’m sure the books I’ve read may have tainted my wants a bit, but not much. Before you ask, yes I do compromise where I see that I’m not compromising me. Yes, I prefer tall guys, six feet plus. Yes, I will date and have dated some shorter. I prefer pepperoni pizza. Sure, I’ll get a meat lovers. No, I’m not a morning person. Sure, we can take the early morning flight, or leave on a road trip early, or even go have breakfast (every now and then on the breakfast. LOL) Those type of things I can comprise on because it doesn’t lower my standards. No, I don’t smoke. No, I won’t date a smoker. Yes, I have a job, a car, and my own place. Yes, you need a job, preferably some type of transportation (unless you medically can’t drive) and somewhere to live. I understand if you have roommate, or stay with a parent. But my question is why are you staying with that parent? Is it because you’re helping foot the bills, are they sick or are you just being lazy? Those type of things I don’t compromise on. I must say, the older I get the higher the standards go. Ya’ll know the saying: “To know better is to do better.”

Now back to Mr. Manley here. His poetry to me speaks so much truth like so many other poets. His stuff breaks down the relationships in a way you may have never heard before. Even the erotic pieces tell the TRUTH. Sure, I know I’m spoiled, but I’m not bratty. I know what I want, I know what I like, and I know how I DESERVE to be treated. Every woman, regardless of race should be treated like a Queen. Every man, regardless of race should be treated like a King. While I say that, are YOU doing your part? Ray talks about the importance of foreplay, the importance of how to treat your woman. He discusses the push and pull in relationships. We all know it’s not always Sunny in California. Relationships go though what I call phases. Me, I truly believe, if you enter into a relationship, a marriage for the right reasons, you will be able to push through those phases. Before you start, yes, I’ve been married. Yes, I did for all the WRONG reasons. Even then I knew it. Now, at 40, I know better. I refuse to settle.

Today I posted on my facebook page a line from one of his pieces. He said “She should not have the fortitude to tell you what you can and can’t do after you’ve weakened her will.” That line there did something, turned on a switch or something. As a man, my man, I shouldn’t have the desire to tell you no. I should be ready to please you because you took care of me. Because as the head of the house, you handled your business. Ladies, that does not mean you just take and don’t give. You have to help him, allow him to do his part. Don’t be in such a rush to pitch a fit every time you don’t get what you want. (Easier said than done, I know.) As I listened to the entire CD the second time around I listened to the words, listened to how they were spoken, understood the meaning. Did I mention, read between the lines? Yes, it’s true, I don’t know Ray Manley on a personal level, don’t know personally if this is the stuff he really does. However, being a poet, knowing poets on a personal level, some of that was him if not all. I’m not putting him on a pedestal, because no one deserves that but God. Still, there’s something to be said about a man being a man. A strong man. A man that protects and provides for his. There’s nothing sexier than seeing a strong man handle his business, both inside and outside the bedroom.

I want to talk to my women for a moment. Women………As a woman, we need to raise our standards. We need to stop allowing lazy men to make your life harder than it needs to be. Demand they do better. BUT make sure you’re doing better too. When I see customers in the store shopping, or at Starbucks where I’m writing, I’m amazed at the level of disrespect that you allow to happen. Is being with someone really that important for them to disrespect you, to belittle you and to do it public? Is it really that important to have companionship that it’s like you’re supporting another child? Okay, your married, he’s sick, he’s disabled. I get that. Still does that give him the right to treat you any less than what you deserve? Yes, we have to work in most cases to help cover expenses. Yes, companies lay off, but is he sitting at home playing video games or out drinking with his buddies spending your money while you’re struggling to pay the bills? I don’t don’t care how cliche’ this sounds, but if I’m going to do bad, I’ll do that by myself. I don’t need help in that. I refuse to preach, but we were created to be his helper, not another mother. You want better? You want more, GET MORE. DO BETTER. Yes, it may be hard work, but it can be done. I’m done. 🙂

Let me say this. I think both men and women alike should get his CD. My opinion. Fellas, you may want to step your game up if you’re not top notch before you let your woman listen to it. Trust me, she’ll expect you to put in some work. She’ll be waiting for you to seduce her without a touch.

Thank you Ray Manley for those awesome pieces of work. Keep up the good work. You rock.

Book Review (Undisclosed Desire 3)

Book Review📖

“Undisclosed Desire 3” by Falon Gold

The third installment of the series was pretty good. I was really looking forward to see what Cameron was really about. He seemed very interesting meeting him in book two. I was also wondering how the author was so this one differently than the other two. When I tell you she did that, she did that!!!!!

When Cameron reveled his plan and contact my mouth hit the floor. That was very new. At least for me. I enjoyed how show wove this story. She made both characters very stubborn and it added humor to the story. I absolutely loved how we knew what Amari conscience was saying throughout the book. Our conscience typically plays an important roll in the decisions we make daily. So to be able to distinguish her thoughts from the conscience thoughts were nice to see.

This book showed you that people can change, but they have to want it. A great life lesson. She also showed that you can’t force love. Great job on adding the life lessons.

Overall it was a well told story that flowed great with the first two books.

Book Review (Loving Montie)

Book Review

“Loving Montie” by Shani Greene-Dowdell

Hopefully you have read the first three “Breathless” books in the series.  If not, you should, you’re missing out.  Although this book is about Montie who is Destiny’s ex-husband, all the characters we love or love to hate is back in this one!!!  First let me say this, I’m soooo glad Montie found love!!!!!  While he wasn’t my favorite person, he wasn’t a bad person.  This book dug deep into Montie and showed you he really is.  Love really makes people go out their way.  For me, Montie went above and beyond to please Destiny.  While, personally, I think Destiny asked for WAY too much of Monte.

Shani took us back to “Secrets of a Kept Woman”.  Monte’s new love interest, Lissa, comes forward in this book.  We also get to see Shayla too.  Of course nothing is ever that simple.  Justine is in the picture too and continues to wreck havoc for all involved. I was glad Montie was able to push past her issues and the issues with Destiny and move on.  He didn’t get weak (at least not yet) and go back to Destiny and all her issues.

Overall this book was an excellent read.  A great continuation of the “Breathless” series.  For me it was a fast read.  Characters were real and showed great emotions.  Shani continues to get better.  Great job Shani!!

Book Review

“Earned By The Billionaire” by Shani Greene-Dowdell

This book is a standalone with Nayberry Publications. I was excited to finally sit down and read this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Kayla and Rusty. Rusty surprised me a lot. I found a lot of myself in Kayla. I love the spunk and drive she has. It was a very exciting read. Shall did an excellent job in bringing the characters and story to life. While I’m glad it was a standalone, somehow I want to know more about Pam. Want her to find love. I enjoyed the read. Great job Shani!!!
